How to Do Computer Maintenance During These Hard Times

In recent years we’ve been hit by the biggest recession yet since the 1930’s, and of course, money has been tight and we’re not on the buying mood as prices are skyrocketing.  With the economy having an unsure future, this is not a good time to allow for defects or issues on your computer. While computer prices are remaining stable getting your computer fixed at a local shop is getting pricier by the minute. Therefore, you need to protect your PC as much as possible even before it shows signs of problems.
What can you do to keep your computer healthy during these hard times? Sure enough, there are some ways to keep your computer error-free and recession-proof – it’s all about using common sense and having a little bit of knowledge in solving the simplest computer problems.

1) DO NOT BUY A COMPUTER, FIX AND SPEED UP YOUR EXISTING ONE
Yes, there may be lots of insanely cheap computers out there on the market today, but it is more inexpensive to simply upgrade your computer’s existing components and replacing damaged ones. This way you can have more freedom in controlling your computer’s total capacity and a faster speed for the same or even lower price.

2) PROTECT YOUR COMPUTER
While it is a hackneyed phrase, prevention is really better than cure. On a physical level, protect your computer from all sorts of electrical hazards, such as a surge protector, a UPS, or a power strip with battery backup, so that problems related to power outages, short circuits or electrical surges can be isolated from the computer. In terms of the virtual aspect of the PC, firewall and antivirus software are still the most effective ways in protecting your computer against harmful viruses and malware, so keep them enabled, especially when you’re online.

3) SMART INTERNET BROWSING
Even with complete protection packages, viruses can still infiltrate your PC if you’re too careless enough to allow them. Be wary of program downloads that do not come from major websites like Amazon or Youtube. Never use the same username and password on each website that you join to as a member. You can have a uniform username, but the password should be varied on each account so that it will be difficult for hackers to hack your accounts.

4) PROPER COMPUTER ETIQUETTE
After using your computer for lengthy durations, make it a point to shut down the PC every now and then.  This will help you save a lot of electricity. Also, read Error Messages especially the long ones as they can help the professional PC repair specialists with your issues.
